Savannah Mall Kicks off Holiday Season with Santa Train Ride and Christmas Tree Lighting

SAVANNAH, Ga. - Nov. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- Santa is coming to the Savannah Mall a little early this year in a fun-filled weekend kicking off Friday, November 14 at 7 p.m. with the lighting of the Savannah Mall’s Christmas tree. The 50-foot tree and mall decor are covered in 500,000 LED lights and can be seen at the center court and is the largest holiday tree in Savannah. Mayor Edna Jackson and Alderman Tony Thomas will be there to assist in the tree lighting ceremony.

Santa will also be collecting Christmas wishes and the first 100 children will receive a silver bell and a ticket to see a special showing of the movie Polar Express, Saturday, November 15, at the Carmike Wynnsong 11 theater behind the Savannah Mall. Families can also register Friday – Sunday for a Polar Express Trip from DES Travel while visiting Santa.

The Savannah Mall is also introducing a new holiday train Friday night with Santa conducting the first ride. The special edition “Rio Grande Train” was manufactured in Vincenza, Italy by Zamperla, Inc. The bright blue, yellow and red choo-choo will have 28 seats and a custom built track designed for the Savannah Mall.

The holiday festivities continue into the weekend and children can have breakfast with Santa Cow, Saturday, November 15 from 9-10 a.m. at the mall food court. The first 100 children will receive a free 3-count chicken mini from Chick-fil-A.

A “Compassionate Santa” will also be available on Saturday, Dec. 6 from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on the lower level of the mall near the soft play area. The event, which is specially designed to accommodate children who are autistic or have similar sensory concerns, will provide an atmosphere free from the usual lighting, music and over-stimulating mall surroundings that prevent an enjoyable visit with Santa. Each child will receive a 5x7 photo commemorating his or her special visit with Santa. Those planning to attend should contact the Savannah Mall ahead of time at 912-927-9663.

“All children deserve to have special time with Santa,” said Savannah Mall General Manager Phil McConnell. “We want to offer everyone a chance to meet the big man in the red suit, including those children with different abilities.”
