Scholar Career Coaching Opens Doors To Student Success

After-School Mentoring Program begins at Atlantic High School

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. - Nov. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Scholar Career Coaching and AVID are excited to announce their collaborative venture for an After-School Mentoring Program at Atlantic Community High School beginning Thursday, October 16, 2014. Atlantic Community High School is dedicated to all of its students becoming positive and productive citizens and members of a global society via intellectual, social, ethical and physical developments. Partnerships like these are a win-win for students, families, schools and communities in South Florida.

According to the National Center on Immigrant Integration Policy, Florida hosted the third largest number of students in need of English Instruction in 2012 with a majority concentrated in Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties. There are almost 165,000 students in Palm Beach Schools and 51,204 high school students.

Students in the AVID program are chosen based on certain criteria: They are students who have potential but may have been overlooked. Students are from middle to lower socioeconomic families and have been historically under-served in 4 year colleges, as well as being the first in family to attend college. “We are excited to officially begin the partnership with Scholar Career Coaching,” said Nickoletta Loulis, AVID Elective Teacher. “Scholar Career Coaching is a perfect fit for our student needs, as it will provide invaluable support in making our student’s dreams come true. Our current students have seen the success of their predecessors and are so excited to begin working with ScholarCC mentors. The students’ conversations are buzzing with enthusiastic anticipation for their first meeting with the gracious mentors who will offer them guidance along their path to success.”

This partnership between Scholar Career Coaching and AVID seeks to improve the 74.7 graduation rate  and increase the 34.3 percent enrollment rate of Florida’s youth, aged 18 – 24, who attend a two- or four-year college program.

“The decision you make today will determine your outcomes for tomorrow,” said Lynne Gassant, Founder and President of Scholar Career Coaching. “I believe students are opening doors to their own success by participating in the after-school mentoring program.”

Founded in 2012, Scholar Career Coaching’s mission is to coach, motivate and support South Florida high school students, particularly students whom speak English as a second language (ESL) and are English language learners (ELL). By networking with passionate and successful volunteers in their career of interest, students have the opportunity to broaden their knowledge and understanding of the industry, attend career expositions and receive advice pertaining to: educational achievement, self-discipline, time management, job search, resume building, interviews and much more.
