WATERFORD, Conn. - Jan. 29, 2015 - PRLog -- The Southeast Connecticut World Affairs Council is holding its 6th of 10 Speakers Series on February 12, 2015.

Thomas de Waal, a leading Eurasia expert from the highly regarded think tank, the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, will be our presenter. Mr. de Waal's presentation is developed from archival sources, reportage, and personal stories. He ties how mass atrocities and historical tragedies shape politics today.

Mr. de Waal is an author, journalist, and reporter. His background includes stints with the BBC World Service, the Moscow Times, the Times of London and the Economist. He co-authored the award winning Chechnya: Calamity in the Caucasus and authored the "Great Catastrophe" and "Black Garden".

Mr. Walters, SECWAC's Chairman commented "We're honored to have a foreign affairs expert of Mr. de Waal's stature present his views to our Members."

The Southeast Connecticut World Affairs Council is a regional Member supported organiztion. We annually bring 8 to 10 experts to a local venue to share first hand experiences in their field of foreign affairs. By maintainig a reputation for impartiality, we facilitate serious and civil debates and discussion on issues that bear directly on America's vital global interests.
