Cry in the Dark Celebrate Their Sweet Sixteenth Birthday

Cry in the Dark, a charitable organisation bringing hope and physical aid to the people of Romania, has announced their 16th anniversary.

COLCHESTER, U.K. - Nov. 11, 2014 - PRLog -- Charitable organisation Cry in the Dark was formed 16 years ago in 1998 after the charity’s CEO and founder, Steve Cooper, found 26 children in appalling conditions in a Romanian orphanage. Cry in the Dark aims to demonstrate Christian love in a practical way by reaching young people pushed to the margins of society through sickness, disabilities and poverty. This year they are celebrating 16 years of working in Romania. Their work includes three projects, Casa Lumina, Hospice Casa Albert and Project Hope.

Casa Lumina, which means House of Light, was the charity’s first project built after Steve Cooper and friends found 26 children suffering from malnutrition and neglect in an orphanage in Romania. After discovering that hospital conditions were even worse, Casa Lumina was built. Casa Lumina, a residential care home, currently provides advocacy, care, education, stimulation, holistic support and love for 22 young people with special needs.

Hospice Casa Albert provides physical, social, emotional and spiritual support to over 80 young people while also supporting another 50 who require occasional intervention. The hospice not only offers high quality care and advocacy for children and young adults with life-limiting and life-threatening illnesses, but also supports their families and offers training to local health and social carers. They provide health education for those in the community and, in addition, offer day care services. The charity hopes in the future to offer more in the way of day care and be able to give care, not just to young people, but to adults.

Project Hope aims to help empower a local Roma community. The project developed out of Hospice Casa Albert after a member of the community was a patient of the hospice. The work which has already begun in the Roma community includes an open air ‘kids club’ church, Youth in Action programme and self-esteem course for girls. Cry in the Dark has recently been given a piece of land which they hope to make use of. Future plans include providing good sanitation and clean drinking water at the local school, a community centre with space for a kindergarten, a youth centre, place of worship and community meeting point as well as providing and teaching basic health care.

Cry in the Dark rely entirely on donations and it is possible to support them in a number of ways which include regular donations, donating money through sponsorship, volunteering at events, sponsoring a child on their Hospice care programme through the Prieten (Friend) Sponsorship programme, or going out to Romania on a volunteering trip.
