PS Racing's Ebenal and Cunnington Enjoy New Challenges in Formula Renault 3.5 Test

BARCELONA, Spain - Nov. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Motorland Aragon Circuit, Alcaniz, Spain –

PS Racing’s Asia Formula Renault pilots Maxx Ebenal of Canada and Guillaume Cunnington of France have certainly distinguished themselves in this season’s AFR Championship, with Ebenal continuing to lead the overall driver’s standings and Cunnington already having sealed the Master’s Class Championship with two rounds still remaining.

However, as is typical with drivers of such talent, they are always looking for another challenge – the type of challenge that the PS Drivers took on with enthusiasm last week in nothing less than the Formula Renault 3.5. Equipped with 530hp and Formula One’s DRS [Drag Reduction System], the Formula Renault 3.5 is one of the three most advanced Formula racing cars in the world, and has been the stepping stone to F1 for most of the drivers in the world’s highest-level racing series.

Guillaume Cunnington: “Surprisingly, putting down 530hp to the ground wasn’t as difficult as I thought it would be thanks to the massive tires and aero downforce – but apart from very different controls in the cockpit other than I am used to, including DRS – that massive downforce was definitely the biggest difference. In fact, the car has more downforce than this year’s F1 car, and it will take more getting used to for me to find the car’s true limits. I came away from the test amazed with the car but knowing that I’d only scratched the surface of what the car is capable of – I can’t wait to go back! And of course I’d like to thank all Renault Sport and Tech1 racing staff for making this test possible as well as PS Racing, as I wouldn't be at my current driving level without them.”

Maxx Ebenal: “I can only say ‘Incredible!’ Like Guillaume, the aero was the toughest thing – obviously we are used to using downforce in the Formula Renault 2.0, but in the 3.5, between the massive tires and much higher level of downforce, the grip feels like it will never stop - no matter how fast you are going through a high-speed corner, you always know you can go faster. The other thing is that the circuit was very technical and I’m sure I could have gotten more out of the car if I was driving it on a track that I am familiar with. But, I made steady improvement throughout my driving and was a full 3 seconds faster in my last couple of laps – I definitely need to get back behind the wheel of the 3.5!”

Congratulations to Ebenal and Cunnington for a successful and rewarding test in Spain last week in the amazing World Series Formula Renault 3.5. We wish them the best of luck in next month’s final Asia Formula Renault weekend December 13-14 at Zhuhai International Circuit, with the Circuit Hero 500 event.
