LOS ANGELES - Nov. 4, 2015 - PRLog -- DARBY POP PUBLISHING’S SIDE-KICKED GRAPHIC NOVEL AVAILABLE AT BOOK STORES STARTING IN NOVEMBER

New superhero sidekick original graphic novel SOLD OUT at New York Comic Con -

Darby Pop Publishing’s all-new and original graphic novel, Side-Kicked, by Russell Brettholtz and Miguel Mendonça, releases as a 96-page trade paperback at U.S. book stores in November 2015.  With an SRP of $14.99, it will be available at major booksellers such as Books-A-Million by November 1st, Barnes & Noble by November 10th, and Amazon on November 12th.  Consumers can also find Side-Kicked at local comic book retailers and online (in four chapters) at Comixology.

The Side-Kicked graphic novel contains the complete first arc of the hilarious and heartfelt Kickstarter sensation that follows a group of superhero consociates who decide it’s high-time they received the respect they deserve.  An early release for New York Comic Con in October sold out in fewer than three days, and collected high praise from critics.

High praise for Side-Kicked:
“It's really hard these days to come up with something original in the way of graphic novels about super heroes, but I think there's still some solid gold to be mined here, and this creative team proved it with a really great, original, and meaningful story.  Yes, the sidekick shtick has been beaten about the bush before now, but never quite in this way, and I liked the way the dynamic played out. The characters seemed realistic and were interesting, with different motivations and personalities. It was a really good, engaging story, and the artwork by Miguel Mendoça was suitably heroic. I recommend it.” — Ian Wood’s Novellum

“Brettholtz’s deadpan comedy allows few breaks for the sidekicks throughout, tapping into the down-on-their-luck wave (think Hawkeye or Ant-Man) that has proven to be a winning formula in the last few years. The series is worth a look if you are keen to venture outside the mainstream capes." — Newsarama

“Side-Kicked is blessed with characters that have been imbued with a heavy dose of humanity.  Writer Russell Brettholtz has a way of making them come alive." — Comicbooktemplewriter
The only thing worse than a super-villain is an egomaniacal superhero.  And in the world of Side-Kicked, there are plenty of both. It’s usually left to the under-paid, under-appreciated underlings to both make their super-powered partners look good and keep common citizens out of danger. But what happens when the sidekicks have finally reached their breaking point?  Side-Kicked tells the story of five of Chicago’s most dedicated and dependable sidekicks who grow frustrated and resentful of being disrespected by the heroes they work with, ignored by the media, and taken for granted by society. So, they opt to go on strike.

Side-Kicked is the first title to be released through the new partnership between Darby Pop Publishing, a creator-owned comic book studio founded by multiple-Emmy Award winning writer/producer Jeff Kline, and Eisner-nominated publishing company Magnetic Press.  For more information on Side-Kicked and anything & everything Darby Pop-related, please visit www.darbypop.com.  Darby Pop Publishing’s titles are available from Diamond Book Distributors and Diamond Comic Distributors in conjunction with Magnetic Press.

About Darby Pop Publishing
Founder Jeff Kline started Darby Pop Publishing with the goal of using the visual medium of sequential art — aka comic books — to tell all-new stories. As a life-long lover of the form, Jeff convinced a small circle of his movie/tv friends to join him as he “broke into” comics after writing/producing nearly 1000 episodes of television over the past two decades. Two years and 40+ books later, Darby Pop Publishing continues to be creator-owned, and a labor of love.
