Tune-in Alert: ABC World News Tonight’s “Real Money” Series on November 5th, 2014 at 6:30pm
Automotive expert Charlie Romero appears on ABC World News Tonight. Romero highlights new technologies and phone apps which enable vehicle owners to save money.
This edition of “Real Money” focuses on various ways for consumers to save money on car repair and maintenance. Mr. Romero highlights several new technologies that enable vehicle owners to save precious money and time. “Unless you love turning a wrench, car repair can be a real nightmare. Vehicle owners don’t know where to begin looking for a trustworthy mechanic who’ll give a fair price and do the job well,” said Romero. “By using new technology, such as smart phone apps, when searching for car repair, the balance of power shifts to the consumer.”
What’s Romero’s favorite way to save? A free iOS app named Openbay, which gathers proposals from local mechanics across the country. “Openbay easily allows consumers to save considerable amounts of time and money when repair shops compete for their business.” In addition to apps like Openbay, Romero advised consumers to try new DIY methods, such as an on-board diagnostic (OBD) reader to decode errors such as check engine lights, in order to help demystify the highly specialized world of car repair. Another way consumers can save is to check whether their vehicle is included in Technical Service Bulletins (TSB), issued by NHTSA; which are available at Safecar.gov.
