The Northern California exhibit has special significance in that it contains the work of artists from two countries that have often been at odds with each other. Most recently, Ethiopia and Eritrea were at war from 1998 to 2000. The two artists in the exhibit have joined together on this joint project to demonstrate that there can be Peace between Ethiopia and Eritrea – and peace is possible on an international level. Yosief Indrias says “as an artist, I regard myself as a fighter who fights for peace in my yard and outside. My gun is a brush and the colours are my bullets and the paper or canvas is my battleground. My preoccupation is to create solution by peace and love and not confusion. I believe great power is great responsibility. Therefore, through my art pieces I tell people and the leaders of the world that they should use power to govern in a peaceful way, with comfort, and sense of humour, rather than misusing the power for personal ego, greed and irresponsibity to others. I also believe my work is to record day-to-day life of people and in the long run to become an archive for future generation’s heritage.” Phil Dynan, Co-Director of the Red Bluff Art Gallery brought the exhibit together as a unique opportunity for Northern Californians to peer into a different culture and history through the eyes of artists. “I was inspired by living and working in Asmara (Eritrea) and have always had a love for the people of North Africa. Their warmth and sincerity left a deep impression on me. When Yosief and Kerima offered to do this exhibit here in Red Bluff, I jumped at the chance,” Dynan says. The exhibit runs from November 7 to December 5th. The Red Bluff Art Gallery is at 601 Walnut Street in downtown Red Bluff. And on the internet at www.RedBluffArtGallery.com End
