Costco to Host Book Signing for Walnut Creek Local Author

Catherine A. Accardi tells story of community’s 200 year transformation

CONCORD, Calif. - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- New from Arcadia Publishing is Walnut Creek by local author and native Californian Catherine A. Accardi.  With more than 180 black and white images, Walnut Creek offers a fascinating look at the history of this dynamic community.

Nestled at the base of Mount Diablo in the Diablo Valley, Walnut Creek is a prosperous East Bay community with a rich history. In 1772 Capt. Pedro Fages led the first Spanish exploration party into Contra Costa County. They encountered the Bolbones Indians, the original inhabitants of the region.

Until 1862, Walnut Creek was known as The Corners - the intersection of two dirt roads leading from Pacheco and Oakland and where four Mexican land grants met. The Corners was officially renamed Walnut Creek and over time its walnut and pear orchards gave way to today’s modern city.

The author hopes that her work “will highlight the town's history in a positive way” and “be a resource for residents, especially children, to learn about their community and move ahead positively into the future.”

Highlights of Walnut Creekinclude:

·    The real story behind the Silk Works Trial

·    The little known connection between the City of Walnut Creek and Levi Strauss

·    The Art Deco work on the north bore

·    Rare images from the collections of local residents, provided by the Contra Costa Historical Society and History Center
