By: queue The first camp location will be located in scenic Abingdon, Virginia, and the second campsite will be near the North Carolina border in Kingsport, Tennessee. The Tour is returning to the Highlands region at the request of many BVA Tour cyclists. “We’re very excited to be returning to this gorgeous part of the country next summer,’ said Dr. Kimberly Perry, Bike Virginia’s Executive Director. “We promise our riders will enjoy amazing mountain vistas, crystal blue rivers, historic sites and so much more”. Cyclists can choose to ride for up to six fun-filled days of breathtaking scenery, camaraderie and fun. Each day, riders have a choice of routes varying in difficulty, with rides available for every skill level. The campsites are a festive and happening place, with numerous food trucks to please every palate, live music each night, shuttles to nearby shopping, activities and historic sites, and more. The campsites were chosen based on their appeal to a wide range of participants and proximity to local attractions, lodging and dining. BVA riders can choose to either camp or stay in an area hotel in the host communities. This year, cyclists will have access to their vehicles at both campsites during the entire event. Tour officials recommend signing up early to take advantage of the savings offered with early registration. “We’re pleased to offer a special early bird savings package for cyclists who sign up by December 31,” said Perry. “We have a lot of past participants who want to secure their spot early and take advantage of this discounted special. We also have a lot of new riders who want to sign up now to help them get motivated, or to check it off of their bucket list!” The tour offers an affordable, family friendly vacation with plenty of exercise. Typical route offerings include distances from 25-100 miles and total about 400 miles over six days, depending on which route options riders choose and on the number of days they register to ride. The tour is a program of Bike Virginia, a 501(C)(3) non-profit that provides educational programs and grants and works to improve bicycling in Virginia for better transportation, health and the environment. Host communities will be eligible to apply for grants for biking initiatives in 2015.
