MDIS School of Media and Communications, Singapore, to announce admissions, organise workshops and seminar in India

NEW DELHI - Nov. 3, 2014 - PRLog -- Delhi October 31, 2014: Management Development Institute of Singapore (MDIS), Singapore’s oldest, not-for-profit professional institute for lifelong learning, will be in India from November 3-8, 2014 to announce admissions to its 18-month comprehensive undergraduate programme under the School of Media and Communications. Offered in association with Oklahoma City University, US, the programme on its successful completion awards students with the Bachelor of Arts (in Liberal Studies with concentration in Mass Communications). MDIS has been offering Singapore’s first American-style Liberal Arts Mass Communications programme since 1992.

MDIS will be travelling to Delhi (November 3-4, 2014), Coimbatore (November 5-6, 2014) and Chennai (November 7-8, 2014) to share with students and parents about the relevance of media & mass communication studies in today’s world and emerging opportunities in the industry. From November 3-7, 2014, MDIS will be organising a workshop on ‘Media in Today’s World’ in selected schools across the three cities.

The workshops will be followed by an exclusive seminar on "The Next Wave of Mass Communications” and a panel discussion: Future of Mass Communications in the digitised World (Using Communications, Social Media & Technology in the Media Industry), on November 8, 2014, at Loyola College, Chennai. Post-seminar, MDIS will be speaking to students on one-on-one basis while conducting admissions for the 2015 intakes. Besides, students from top 20 schools will be participating in an inter-school Adzap competition (strictly by invitation only) at Loyola College, on the same day.

The seminar will have eminent guests on its panel, including Professor Karlie Harmon, Director of International Mass Communications Programmes, Oklahoma City University, US; Dr Kavitha Ganesh, Former Dean, School of Communication and Media Studies, MOP Vaishnav College for Women; Mr Nandagopal Nair, Deputy News Editor, Bloomberg TV India; Mr Sharad Saxena, Executive Director, Operations and Human Resource, Hindustan Times; Dr Nirmala Prasad, former Principal, MOP Vaishnav College for Women, Educationist and Policy Maker; and Professor Suresh Paul, Head of Department for Visual Communications, Loyola College, Chennai. Professor Harmon will be the main speaker for both seminar and workshops. The panellists are chosen keeping in mind ‘The 3E view – Educationist, Employer and Expert’ and would be open for discussions on all aspects of higher education and career in media and mass communications field.

Elaborating on the focus of the undergraduate programme, Lecturer from the MDIS School of Media and Communications, Ms Kelly Ann Pereira, said, “The Bachelor of Arts (in Liberal Studies with concentration in Mass Communications) is much sought after as Oklahoma City University is well- regarded in the higher education system. The focus throughout the programme is on the application of research and writing in the academic community, media studies and television programmes like scripting, public relations campaign planning and management and communication skills.”

Added Mr Suresh Ranganathan, Director of International Business at MDIS, “The full-time course is spread over 14 modules and offers a three-week on-campus residency at the university which involves real time TV production at OCU campus studio. Taught by senior level faculty from Oklahoma City University, the curriculum facilitates a combination of real-world experience, fieldwork and classroom-based activities.”
