Fundraiser Helping Women with Breast Cancer receive Breast Prosthesis
This fundraiser helps women who can not afford breast prosthesis and bras after cancer treatment.
By: Her New Image
The purpose of this fundraiser is to help newly diagnosed and breast cancer survivors get professionally fitted, by a certified mastectomy fitter for breast prosthesis and mastectomy bras that fit her needs after losing her breast to cancer.
As of early 2014, many local community centers in Texas and Louisiana discontinued its Breast Prosthesis and Mastectomy Bra Program. The discontinuation of this program is affecting many uninsured / low-income newly diagnosed and survivors needing these products. Imagine how this is affecting many women with their self-esteem and self-image, not to mention the imbalance of her body due to the missing breast or breasts.
An external breast prosthesis is an artificial breast form that can be worn after a mastectomy. It helps balance the body and keeps the bra on the side of the mastectomy from riding up, which helps prevent back and neck pain and a sagging shoulder. It’s very important that a woman has the proper amount of weight up against her chest wall. Remember her breast was removed and the average weight of a breast is anywhere from 2-5 pounds.
