Chesson: Derosier Lies Just Keep on Coming
DeRosier's video denies that he supports 20-year sentences for simple possession of marijuana and that he has supported lower sentences for marijuana offenders. That's simply not the case, and there's video evidence to prove it. Last April, DeRosier testified at a state Senate hearing AGAINST a bill that would have reduced sentences for marijuana offenders. It was reported by the press and remains on the Legislature's website.
DeRosier says the number of forcible rapes have gone down in Calcasieu and that Chesson is lying by saying they've gone up. In fact, what Chesson said is that the number of forcible rapes has remained constant relative to neighboring and comparable parishes. What's also true is that the FBI reported - in writing - that crime in Calcasieu has been underreported in recent years.
As if that's not enough, DeRosier's minions are using social media to spread lies about Chesson owing back child support and rumors that Chesson uses drugs. In fact, Chesson won custody of his children, and submitted to multiple drug tests to refute his ex-wife's claim that he used narcotics. Chesson's ex-wife also owes HIM child support.
DeRosier says your D.A. should be guided by the truth. His opponent agrees.
"I have not uttered one word of untruth since this campaign began, and that's about all the voters are getting from John DeRosier," Chesson said. "He has used taxpayer dollars for political purposes, and we can prove it. He has used D.A.'s employees on the public clock to do political work, and we can prove it. He has manipulated the media, and we can prove it. And he has rewarded political contributors with public contracts - and we can prove it.
"John DeRosier says I'm spreading untruth and slinging mud, but the facts are on my side," Chesson said. "It's not 'mud' if it's true, and lying to cover up his lies only makes them worse. The people deserve better."
