Manifesting Dreams: Glow Hot Yoga Spotlight

With very diverse backgrounds, three unlikely partners with a common goal to empower individuals and create a community around yoga and wellness, set out to open a new hot yoga studio with paddleboard program. This is the story of Glow Hot Yoga!

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. - Oct. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- During his first teacher training in 2001, Gabriel Azoulay had a realization why Yoga was so vital for life. His teacher trainer had used the term “preventative maintenance” to describe the power that Yoga offers. Suddenly Gabriel found himself back in his college sophomore year, when he first encountered Yoga poses. It was in a library book.

You have to know that back in 1994, before Yahoo and before Google, you couldn’t search your key words online. You had to go to the library computer, read the title, read the brief synopsis (if there was one) and decide if that was the book you wanted. If so, you had to write down the series of letters and numbers that identified where you could find the book. Back then you would go on a hunt!

So there he was, with a key word “yoga” scribbling down numbers and letters for a few titles he had identified. He was not there researching for a philosophy class paper. He had just finished reading Tom Robbins “Jitterbug Perfume” and at the age of 19 was taken by the idea that Yoga offered the secret to long life. Gabriel set out to seek out the source of Tom Robbins' inspiration.

And indeed, the thick book, by James Hewitt, “The Complete Yoga Book” with its illustrations, breathing techniques and lifestyle advice, also promised a life full of health, happiness and joy if one simply practiced Yoga. Gabriel was 19 years old at the time, a college student, a surfer and rugby player. With no yoga studios on campus, let alone a yoga journal subscription, Gabriel began to practice on his own. He quickly saw the benefits yoga had for his running and Rugby game. His breathing improved and his surfing became more fluid. He made his team mates do sun salutations and whenever possible, would praise the power of yoga.

Today, after 21 years of practicing yoga, the principle of “preventative maintenance” is the key motivator in Gabriel’s teaching.

Preventative maintenance is the main driver for why we brush our teeth every morning and evening. Inspired by the power of targeted sequences, Gabriel created a Hot Flow sequence in 2007 that has left one practitioner saying, “when I first found this practice, my back was going into spasms every other day. After the first practice I felt such freedom in my spine, I knew I had to come back. After a week I realized I had no spasms at all”.

In the spring of 2014, Peter Larios attended Yoga Teacher Training at a studio in Newport Beach, CA. Turning 40, Peter decided he wanted to share the joy he discovered being in the yoga room. The Yoga room helped him transform his weight and build up his body. He looked younger, felt more energetic. Yoga eased the stress caused by his business and slowed down his thoughts clearing the way for better decision-making.

Inspired by Gabriel’s teaching methods and captivated by Gabriel’s BikYasa sequence, Gabriel and Peter set out to establish a studio near Peter’s home, in Riverside, CA. Soon their direction would change completely. But let’s not get ahead of ourselves.

In the winter of 2013, Gabriel reached out to Brittany Slater, whose company PureSUP Yoga caught his attention. PureSUP Yoga’s eco-friendly SUP boards and Brittany’s vision for sourcing manufacturing alternatives that support our planet lead Gabriel to become an ambassador for PureSUP and help share the message of personal and global better living.

Brittany started PureSUP Yoga out of her small apartment in Manhattan Beach, CA.

Without the money or experience to open a yoga studio, Brittany decided to take on an opportunity to create an eco-friendly line of stand up paddleboards for yoga. Brittany had just enough money to create a website and prototype the boards.

To her humble surprise boards started to sell right away though she faced challenges with her business model and low margin product and eventually doubt set in. She wondered why she had given up her career and stability, what her true calling was and how she could best serve this world?

Recalling the joy of teaching and the magic of being out with others on SUP boards, Brittany pivoted her business and supported a new board shop in Redondo Beach with their paddleboard yoga program. Slowly she made enough money to purchase her own fleet of boards and also started leading classes in Huntington Beach.

In order to pay the rent, Brittany supplemented her income by working in Real Estate. When Gabe reached out to Brittany for real estate advice it was divine timing.

That day she left a meeting with the owner of a potential studio location. A location she had her eye on since moving to Huntington Beach in 2013 after teaching yoga in Costa Rica for a few months.

Her initial partner decided to go her own way and suddenly with a perfect location, Brittany had no partners to bring the dream to life. She decided to ask Gabriel about his plans and whether he and his business partner would consider opening in Huntington Beach.

The idea of combining SUP and Hot Yoga was welcomed immediately. After all, the studio location was right on the harbor at Peter’s Landing Marina.

As Gabriel, Peter and Brittany excitedly worked out the details of their new endeavor, they pondered many business name ideas. Brittany had shared a precognition she had when graduating college in 2008 about opening a yoga studio. Even though she knew starting a business was a long shot at that time, she still wrote down her ideas and business names, one of them being “Glow.”

The team knows that “Glow” represents more than just the idea of brightness. It represents the inner radiance we experience after we accomplish a project, complete a physical activity, or share an experience. Hot Yoga represents a promise for health and happiness. When you find your peace and calm in the Hot Yoga room, you can find it everywhere.

Glow Hot Yoga’s one-hour classes clears the daily dust from the mirror of your soul, recharges your muscles and lubricates your joints. If your body is happy and healthy, we believe the rest of your life falls into place.

Our team is so excited to share our passion for yoga, wellness and paddle boarding with you! Please join us on our journey to create a yoga community in North Huntington Beach by connecting subscribing to our mailing list on our website: www.glowhotyoga.com
