GROTON, Conn. - Oct. 30, 2014 - PRLog -- Seabird Enterprises Inc., a vocational training program for the developmentally disabled based in Groton, was a recent recipient of a community grant funded by Charter Oak Federal Credit Union.  Charter Oak’s generous grant allowed the non-profit agency- which has served the developmentally disabled of Eastern Connecticut for over thirty years- the opportunity to expand an existing supported employment program.

Seabird consumers participating in supported employment enjoy working in a variety of community locations throughout the area in industries such as retail, food service, radio/telecommunications and more.  Through the use of Charter Oak’s grant money the program was able to obtain a new high powered laptop computer allowing consumers the ability to perform job searches, create resumes and cover letters, apply to positions through online application portals and other job search related tasks.

Lori Neumann, Interim Executive Director at Seabird Enterprises, feels the new technology available to the program will allow consumers “the interactive communication skills required in the modern workplace to obtain career goals and expectations”.
