By: Miller Family YMCA of Newbury Park Six YMCA members formed the Miller Y’s service committee. The six are Natisse Gaida, Veronica Rodarte, Patricia Saito, Danielle Thornton, Dr. Karen Sue and Justin Kawaguchi. “There are so many ways to help make our community better, but sometimes it’s not always obvious where or how to get involved,” says Jessie Bringelson, Miller Y’s youth director. “These Y members have taken the initiative to launch the program the Y calls ‘Togetherhood.’ All ages can help with maintenance and planting at Sycamore Canyon School (4601 Via Rio, Newbury Park) on November 16. “Just bring work gloves,” says Bringelson. The next volunteer project is to collect canned food before the holidays to donate to FoodShare, Ventura County’s food bank. “Part of the YMCA’s mission is to strengthen the community it serves by giving back and supporting our neighbors,” says Bringelson. “The service committee is your opportunity to get involved and contribute your time and talent to help others.” Volunteers do not need to be YMCA members to participate.
