Joey Sommerville's Official CD Release Concert “Overnight Sensation”

ATLANTA - Oct. 28, 2014 - PRLog -- On Thursday, October 30th, award-winning jazz trumpeter, Joey Sommerville, will have his official CD Release Concert presented by Jazz Beat Promotions, in correlation with the release of his 5^th studio album entitled: Overnight Sensation released October 28^th under his Jayvox imprint. The highly anticipated album features special appearances by jazz legends Earl Klugh and Jeff Lorber, trombonist Jeff Bradshaw, saxophonist Elan Trotman and guitarist Eric Essix. More than 20 years in the making, “Overnight Sensation” will give fans and concert attendees an insight into Sommerville’s musical journey. The release concert will be held at downtown Atlanta's popular Suite Food Lounge for their “Suite Jazz Series” on Thursday October 30th at 7:30pm.

Considered a contemporary jazz artist in the industry, Sommerville is a beloved performer by his fans and an in-demand trumpeter, featured at various national festivals and international music cruises. A spotlight soloist on the Grammy-nominated and Juno Award-winning album “Alegria” by Cirque du Soleil, Sommerville’s debut release “Like You Mean It” won the American Society of Young Musician’s All That Jazz Award in 2009. His trumpet artistry was also featured on Hidden Beach Recordings’ “Unwrapped Volume 4”. Sommerville has written and produced a Top 20 single for Bob Baldwin and an album by Rhonda Smith that features performances by Prince, Sheila E. and gospel icon Fred Hammond. As he states when creating music, “Music is Soul Communication. It's that essence that can give you goosebumps or make you laugh or make you cry. I am truly blessed to be able to create my own form of magic through music.”

For “Overnight Sensation”, Sommerville wrote and co-wrote nine of the album’s ten tracks and produced the entire session, sharing production duties on two songs with Jeff Lorber. The trumpeter who also plays flugelhorn, piano, keyboards, synth bass and drum programming on the record, has scripted a diverse collection of short stories with his horn providing a continuous groove throughout the album that incorporates contemporary and straight-ahead jazz, R&B, hip hop and rock. “Musically, I’m comfortable in my skin and more confident than ever in what I'm doing. I’m truly happy with the outcome of this record. I've fully embraced who I am as an artist without regard to someone else's pre-conceived notions of format.” he says with a knowing smile. Some of the highlighted songs on the album include: the sensuous track “Desire” with legend Earl Klugh, an imaginative remake of Ellington’s “Caravan” with trombonist Jeff Bradshaw, a romantic ode to his wife, “I Just Wanna Be With You” featuring Sommerville’s husky serenading voice, “The Next Big Thing” a Lorber R&B-jazz-funk groove illumined by Sommerville’s trumpet and quirky synth along with a touch of sax from Elan Trotman and the beautiful “Rebecca of Birmingham”, written years ago after Sommerville’s grandmother passed, which is graced by a rousing blues-jazz guitar eulogy from Eric Essix. Sommerville’s message and purpose for creating this album is, “To engage people… to make them feel better than they did before. I'm trying to lift people. My hope is that their spirits are made brighter by listening to this album.”

The “Overnight Sensation” Release Concert will feature Sommerville performing songs from the album, including the lead hit single “Overnight Sensation”, which is currently #1 Most Added Song and #1 SpinCrease Song on the SmoothJazz.com chart. Always known to bring the party, Sommerville will unveil “Red Cups Up” a playful “feel-good” party anthem along with fan favorites and signature songs such as “Like You Mean It”.
