iBooks Evangelist Launches Kickstarter Campaign

Michigan businessman sets out to prove the relevance of interactive eBooks

Oct. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- Serial entrepreneur, Mike O’Reilly, has launched a Kickstarter campaign to promote the development of interactive eBooks using Apple’s iBooks Author software.

Never one to dip his toe in the waters of an unfamiliar business sector, O’Reilly shows up at the first meeting wearing his bathing suit, ready to dive in. When he had the urge to release an eBook for kids, he didn’t just write one, he wrote two, having each professionally illustrated. Then he had both titles translated into the six languages spoken in the countries where the most eBooks are sold. He also kept creating original eBook aimed at other demographics, and he hasn’t let up, since.

O’Reilly is what techies call an “early-adopter,” having jumped into the app game back when titles available on iTunes still numbered in the mere tens of thousands. In the case of interactive eBooks, O’Reilly may have arrived a bit too early to the party.

“I worked as hard as I could for about six months, building every kind of interactive eBook I could think of, just to demonstrate the power of iBooks Author,” O’Reilly said. “And I assumed a lot of other people were doing the same thing. But when I came up for air and looked around, it seemed like I was the only one who got the memo.” That was when O’Reilly realized he had an entirely different job ahead of him. Marketing the eBooks he’d written himself would be one task, but it became clear that if O’Reilly was to capitalize as a provider of eBook development services he’d have to lay a lot of groundwork. He had to become a force for public (and corporate) awareness about the iBooks Author, itself.

“I never set out to become an ‘evangelist,’ for anything,” O’Reilly said. “But when it comes to iBooks Author I’ll shout it from the mountaintop if that’s what it takes to succeed.” Luckily for the Michigan businessman, Kickstarter is a very loud megaphone of sorts. “I’m really excited about the Kickstarter campaign because I think interactive eBooks exist at the confluence of traditional media and the tech world. It’s something that leverages some of the most advanced software ever created, while delivering a product that’s simple to use and easy to understand, matter what your age or level of technical expertise.” View the Kickstarter project here: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/897753943/ebooks-cre...
