WM Industries Participates in Lemon Bowl Flag Football Tournament Benefiting Alex's Lemonade Stand

MONTGOMERYVILLE, Pa. - Oct. 27, 2014 - PRLog -- WM Industries, a leader in precision product design and manufacturing, joined other organizations and individuals in participating in the sixth annual Lemon Bowl Flag Football Tournament benefiting Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation (ALSF) and the fight against childhood cancer. The tournament took place in Horsham, PA on Saturday, October 25.

According to ALSF, cancer is the leading cause of death by disease in children under the age of 15 in the United States, and one in 330 children will be diagnosed with cancer by the time they reach 20 years of age. Despite these startling statistics, less than 5 percent of the federal government’s total funding for cancer research is dedicated to childhood research each year.

The Lemon Bowl Flag Football Tournament, started in the fall of 2009 through the efforts of Pete Lenskold and Jacky Maleno, was designed as a unique way to help the fight against childhood cancer. As of 2013, the Lemon Bowl Flag Football Tournament has donated over $34,000 to ALSF and hopes to raise more than $30,000 this year.

ALSF was formed in the front yard lemonade stand of cancer patient Alexandra “Alex” Scott (1996-2004). In 2000, 4-year-old Alex announced that she wanted to hold a lemonade stand to raise money to help find a cure for all children with cancer. To date, the foundation has raised more than $80 million toward fulfilling Alex’s dream of finding a cure, funding over 450 pediatric cancer research projects nationally.
