DERBY, U.K. - Oct. 24, 2014 - PRLog -- Ofcom’s Communications Market Report (Aug 14) makes some interesting reading. It’s a comprehensive document, reporting on the usage of all communication services in the UK with comparisons to Ofcom’s previous annual research.

We’ve picked out some facts relating to mobiles and smartphones that we believe truly show why businesses should be embracing mobile communications to engage and maintain relationships with their contacts.

You can read about them with our infographic on this blog: http://www.doluna.com/blog

So why are mobile phones so powerful as a communication tool for businesses?

Well, if you want to make phone calls, the Ofcom report states that 26% of 16-24 year olds and 28% of 25-34 year olds now have no landline telephone in their household for starters. But apart from that, it’s because that powerful little smartphone device in our pockets and bags is never far from our side and is our personal companion and guide to life. It’s so much more than just a phone – we speak, text, chat, organise, shop, learn, record, socialise, play… the list goes on.

Businesses who aren’t yet using the mobile phone as a way of contacting, verifying, supporting, alerting, reminding their contacts are missing out and should embrace mobile phone communication to engage and stay connected with their audience.

For example, SMS / text messaging.

Businesses using SMS are taking advantage of a low cost, direct and intimate form of communication. A simple text message is a powerful tool that can streamline business processes and deliver tangible results:

Reach your contacts wherever they are – mobile phones are usually never far away from their owner, regardless of whether they’re at home, work, or just out and about.
Verify your contacts – use HLR to verify any mobile number you are given is valid and available. If you need to perform a 2 step authentication from your website or call centre, use text messaging to verify your contact with a mobile PIN.
Provide useful, timely messages and alerts  – remind your contacts about appointments, meetings, payments, sales, orders, renewals, deliveries, deadlines and more.
Collect instant payments online – send text messages that contain unique payment links so that your contacts can pay online there and then without needing to call you.

Perhaps your business could benefit from using more mobile communications and text messaging to streamline your business processes?
