Follow on Google News | TABASCO Praises Small Global Farmers, Environmental Protection in This Week’s This Built AmericaBy: AOL/This Built America Making TABASCO sauce is an exact science—one that involves meticulous planning and preparation. With such a volatile pepper crop, grown from heritage seeds, CEO Anthony “Tony” Simmons and his team work with 400 small farmers across the world to ensure crops are grown correctly, even if it isn’t at their home base of Avery Island. Yet they never underestimate the importance of their home island. “I think part of the reason we’ve been able to stay family owned and operated is because of Avery Island,” recalls Simmons. He is the 7th descendant of founder Edmund McIlhenny to run TABASCO. The family and residents of the island are also doing their part to preserve the land. “It’s the feeling that the land has been good to you, so you’re good to it,” explains McIlhenny family member and TABASCO employee Harold “Took” Osborn. AOL is proud to support the effort along with sponsor Ford Trucks. Through the year, the editorial and video teams will explore 50 states in 50 weeks to bring 50 stories of the people who are bringing back manufacturing to America. The platform is produced in coordination with Man Made Content. This Built America: 770 Broadway New York, NY 10003 http://www.ThisBuiltAmerica.com 212-652-6494 (x26494) End
