The American sphere will be handsomely represented by William Verplanck Birney’s traditionalist work, with a universal and sports oriented appeal titled Between Sets. The work depicts a tennis muse awaiting her turn on the court. Also for the sports enthusiast is an anonymous British or Scottish work showing a pair of turn-of-the century golfers at St. Andrews. This untouched work of large scale is modestly estimated at $8,000-12,000.

Also offered will be works by, Jean Dufy, Montague Dawson, Jean Dubuffet, Pablo Picasso, Philippe Auge, Daniel Ridgway Knight, and David de Noter.

Most items in the sale come fresh to the market, having remained in private collections and prominent estates for a decade or more. Over 200 lots from a prominent Palm Beach collector, plus select works from the estate of Charles Henderson, are excellent examples.

“We have assembled a sale tailored to the refined tastes of our global collecting community, keeping exceptional quality and rarity as our guiding principles,” says Albert Levy of A.B. Levy’s. “The resulting sale is an exciting, sweeping representation, embracing multiple mediums and movements and tracing an evolutionary path from the 19th to the 21st century. I encourage serious collectors to attend or register to bid online.”

Nautical, sporting and traditional landscape themed works are each an iconic rendition of their genre. In keeping with growing demand for nautical art, A. B. Levy's is pleased to present three important works by the renowned British maritime master Montague Dawson: Open Ocean (est. $30,000-$50,000), Deep Water (est. $80,000-$120,000), and The Clipper Blue (est. $40,000-$60,000). Additional nautical themed paintings are by the noted British artist Anthony Brandrett, as well as American artists Jay Arnold, Brian Coole and George Elmer Browne, whose work titled Moonlight Harbor (est. $30,000-$40,000) reflects an intimate subject on a large canvas in a monotone palette.

From amongst the privately consigned works is a well-balanced collection of English and European Majolica. Highlights include a rare monumental Minton wine cistern (est. $20,000-30,000) and, of special note to Floridians, a near pair of Minton large cane stands (est. $25,000-35,000). Each features a large, realistically modeled heron.

A unique offering from the same collection is a silver-mounted embossed leather presentation saddle, commissioned by the present owner from the noteworthy Colorado firm Skyhorse. It is expected to breeze past the $15,000-25,000 estimate. Also in the auction is a wide assortment of porcelain, furniture, art glass by Dale Chihuly and contemporary ceramics.
