Free Taize Prayer and Concert November 5, 2014, at Historic St. Joseph Chapel, Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE - Oct. 23, 2014 - PRLog -- The School Sisters of St. Francis invite everyone to the historic St. Joseph Chapel on Wednesday, November 5, for “The Beatitudes: Living Christ’s Call in the Maze of Daily Life.” Using the ecumenical prayer style of the brothers of Taize, France, there will be readings, songs, silent reflection and prayers of intercession beginning at 6 p.m.  At 6:45 p.m., a concert by John Rose, trumpet, and Sister Mary Jane Wagner, organ, will extend the prayer, leading listeners more deeply into the joy, simplicity, mercy and hope of Christian life.  The event is free and open to the public, and takes place on the first Wednesday of every month.

The focus of both the prayer and the concert will be on the Beatitude “Blest are the sorrowing; they shall be consoled.”

Some of the pieces featured during the evening will be the “Pie Jesu” by from Fauré’s “Requiem,” “Ave Verum Corpus” by Mozart, and “Prayer of St. Gregory” by Hovhaness.   “The music selections are intended to be reflective of the evening’s theme, and to complement the service,” said Rose.  “The ‘Pie Jesu’ is a tranquil and beautiful piece of music, and is probably the most meaningful for the evening because of its context within the Requiem Mass.”

A Milwaukee native, Rose is a freelance trumpet player and private lesson instructor who studied Applied Trumpet at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, as well as additional chamber music study at Tanglewood with the prestigious Empire Brass Quintet.  He has performed professionally throughout the Midwest for more than 25 years, and works in sheet music creation and quality assurance for digital music sources for the Hal Leonard Corporation, the world’s largest publisher of print music.

Rose looks forward to returning to St. Joseph Chapel.  “It is an excellent space, big and full—really good for a trumpet player like me.”

Convenient free parking is available in the St. Joseph Center lot, accessible on 29th and Orchard (Alexia Circle entrance). For more information, call Sister Mary Jane Wagner at 414-385-5246.
