Follow on Google News | Atombank Books to Publish First Children’s Biography of Judy GarlandAtombank Books will release "Judy Garland: Little Woman, Big Talent" on November 3rd. It is the first book about the legendary singer and actress specifically written for young readers.
By: Atombank Books “Judy Garland is the one star from Hollywood’s Golden Age every child still knows thanks to The Wizard of Oz, but they may not know much about her,” says author John Briggs. “I think Judy Garland: Little Woman, Big Talent helps them understand how much talent this 4’11” woman really had.” The 101-page book covers Judy Garland’s life from early childhood performing in her parents’ theater to her rise to superstardom in the most watched movie of all time. It features breakouts and sidebars to highlight the text, as well as three-dozen photographs, a timeline, glossary, and mini-biographies of important people she met. “We’re thrilled to be publishing the first children’s book about Judy Garland,” says Atombank Books founder Amy Tombank. “Books about Judy Garland remain popular, but they’re written for her adult fans rather than the kids who love her, too.” The book remains an upbeat look at Garland’s life and accomplishments by focusing on her drive to overcome the repeated obstacles she faced in Hollywood rather than her many personal struggles. “There was a lot to leave out of Judy’s life,” adds John Briggs, “but there are many good things young readers can learn from her, including not giving up on your dreams. Adult biographies often focus on the dark side of her life, but children don’t need to read about all that. Judy’s life is a cautionary, but it’s also a celebration of her ambition and talent. I tried to capture that to inspire young readers, no matter what challenges they face. Judy Garland: Little Woman, Big Talent will initially be available through Amazon as a print and ebook before going into wide release. Author John Briggs is a former nationally syndicated children’s TV and movie critic. He is also the author of Mary Dyer, Friend of Freedom, the premiere children’s book about the first woman in America executed for her religious beliefs.
