M&L Special Needs Planning, LLC Can Help You Simplify and Secure Your Future

Financial and Life Planning Company offers workshops that help Americans plan for the future of their family members with special needs

WASHINGTON - Oct. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- M&L Special Needs Planning, LLC devotes itself to providing the information and tools that families with special needs require to plan successful, financially stable futures. As a part of that commitment, M&L’s team of experts have designed series of workshops that provide the information, tools and resources to help families navigate their own unique special needs journey. In their latest weekly blog post, M&L announced that two of these workshops – Integrated Community Based Housing with Services, and Navigating The Financial World of the Family with Special Needs will be held next week, October 22nd and 21st respectively. Please read on for more information and to register for these events.

Navigating the Financial World of the Family with Special Needs

According to M&L, people often ask, “What is the key to special needs planning?” The special needs experts at M&L respond by pointing out that there is no easy answer to that question; each family is unique, with individual goals and challenges, resources and expenses. As such, it is impossible to come with a one size fits all solution, or “guide” to special needs planning. However, M&L has designed a workshop, titled Navigating the Financial World of the Family with Special Needs, to address the above question with a number of scenarios in mind, and to provide important information (including valuable time-saving tips) to families with special needs.

In addition to providing these planning tips, this workshop also serves another important purpose: it covers topics that can often be uncomfortable to consider, but are essential to any sort of financial or legal plan for the future. For example, M&L discusses providing for the individual with special needs after the parents are gone, i.e. through insurance concepts, special needs trust (http://specialneedsplanning.net/special-needs-trust/), and housing opportunities.  Planning for the financial (and other) ramifications of “solo care” in the event of a death of a spouse/partner is explored; they also touch on legal and estate issues, the Special Needs Trust (http://specialneedsplanning.net/special-needs-trust/) (and the funding of this trust), as well as the Letter of Intent (http://specialneedsplanning.net/workshops/preparing-the-l...). Finally, they discuss how completing their Comprehensive Special Needs Financial Life Plan (http://specialneedsplanning.net/services/comprehensive-sp...) will enable you to be proactive in planning for the entire family’s financial future.

This workshop will take place Wednesday, October 22nd at The Treatment and Learning Center in Rockville, MD. Contact M&L to register. (http://events.r20.constantcontact.com/register/event?llr=idtuvbdab&oeidk=a07e9pav7mq0c0def9f)

Integrated Community Based Housing with Services and Supports

M&L Special Needs Planning, LLC and Center for Independent Futures® (CIF) are currently in partnership with a group of core families in Maryland to create and develop special needs housing in Maryland, Washington, D.C. and Virginia. This project began about a year and a half ago when M&L founder & owner, Maedi Tanham Carney CFP®, CWIC met with CIF and learned about their Community Living Option™ residences. From that meeting grew a workshop, and from that workshop grew a team of core families who have come together to ensure that their adult children with special needs will live fulfilling, independent, adult lives. (For more information, please search “housing” on M&L’s blog).

This workshop, titled Integrated Community Based Housing with Services and Supports, is designed to introduce this housing project to families with special needs, and to acquaint people with their project’s developing non-profit, Integrated Living Opportunities (ILO). M&L, CIF and the core families are committed to creating a full life for individuals with disabilities, and will share with attendees how they are creating community-based supported living options. These person-centered living options are inclusive, sustainable, and integrated – attention is paid to every aspect of adult life, including employment, recreation, socialization and being fully integrated within his/her community.

As well, this workshop will introduce the first resident of this housing project, celebrate her move towards independence, and describe how she works within the community partnership concept. M&L staff will discuss how the ILO is being created, delve into the steps it is currently taking to become official, i.e. creating by-laws and filing for Incorporation, and discuss the shape that this non-profit will take as M&L’s housing development project grows and expands.

This workshop is taking place Tuesday, October 21st at The Arc of Northern Virginia Offices. All spaces are currently reserved. If you would like to be added to the wait list, please contact The Arc of Northern Virginia (https://www.z2systems.com/np/clients/arcofnva/event.jsp?event=1577&). M&L will hold another session if interest warrants; if you have any questions, would like more information, or would like to request that M&L host a second workshop please contact M&L (http://specialneedsplanning.net/contact/).
