Shermco Celebrates 40 Year Anniversary

DALLAS - Oct. 16, 2014 - PRLog -- DALLAS – The year of 1974 gave us many classics. “Jaws” was published, “Happy Days” came on the air, “You are the Sunshine of my Life” was nominated for a Grammy and Shermco Industries was founded. And now Shermco Industries celebrates 40 years in business.

Steadily over the past 40 years Shermco has become an industry leader in rotating machinery repair and service, electrical engineering services, testing, repair and remanufacturing, and over the last several months it has doubled its size by expansion into the Canadian market. In 2012, GFI Energy Group of Oaktree Capital Management made a substantial investment in Shermco with the strategic plan to grow through acquisition and organic expansion in order to better serve the mid to heavy industrial complex and energy sector. For years, the electrical maintenance needs of these sectors have been served by smaller-scale companies, usually leading to the need for several contractors and more downtime than necessary for large projects.

In preparation for growth, Shermco’s Irving Headquarters finished a $1.5 million expansion in 2013 so that it can more quickly turn around customer motor and generator remanufacturing requirements, especially in support of the rapidly growing wind energy market segment. The company now has 14 service centers employing nearly 1200 engineers, technicians and support staff serving municipal, industrial and utility customers ranging from the Texas gulf coast to the Canadian oil sands  region.

In 1974 Shermco began as a repair and remanufacturing facility for industrial electric motors and related equipment.  They expanded in the early 1980’s into medium and high-voltage electrical system maintenance, which has become one of Shermco’s core businesses with more than 250 technicians certified by the InterNational Electrical Testing Association.  Shermco personnel have also been pivotal in the development of national and international standards for electrical safety, participating in standards development for NETA, , Institute  of Electrical and Electronic Engineers, Canadian Standards Association, Electrical Apparatus Service Association and the National Fire  Protection Association.
