OAKLAND, Calif. - Oct. 13, 2014 - PRLog -- SEM Link’s Math and Science Career Academy will celebrate National Chemistry Week by sending volunteers to classrooms and after-school programs in the urban areas we serve to engage youth in hands on chemistry activities. National Chemistry Week (NCW) (http://www.acs.org/content/acs/en/education/outreach/ncw.html), an outreach program of the American Chemical Society is October 19-25, 2014; this year’s theme is “The Sweet Side of Chemistry: Candy”. National Chemistry Week encourages chemists and chemistry enthusiasts to build awareness of chemistry to promote the value of chemistry in everyday life.

SEM Link’s has celebrated National Chemistry Week since its inception in 2005.  It is a great opportunity for SEM Link to connect youth to the scientists and engineers that can engage them in hands on chemistry activities and expose them to careers in Chemistry.  “It is important that we expose K-12 students to chemistry through hands on activities and interaction with professionals, undergraduate and graduate students studying and working in Chemistry and Chemistry related disciplines” stated Dr. Tedric D. Campbell, Chemistry Professor and Former SEM Link Board of Director. “In order to fill the pipeline for the future STEM workforce, we must expose youth to as many STEM disciplines as we can and allow them to make their chose of what career path they will pursue based on their aptitude and interests.”
