Follow on Google News | Operation Kindness Celebrates National Adopt a Shelter Dog Month-- --Offers $25 off Canine Adoption Fees on Fido Fridays-- --
By: Operation Kindness Regular adoption fees are $175 for dogs/puppies and $125 for cats/kittens. During Fido Fridays, dog/puppy adoption fees will be $150. Adoption fees help cover the costs of caring for the animals at Operation Kindness, such as tests, vaccinations, microchipping, spay/neuter surgery and other medical procedures. Anyone who adopts from Operation Kindness also receives a pet care starter kit with food samples and helpful information, a temporary leash, an animal ID tag, one month of pet insurance, a microchip ID with a one-year registration, a $25 gift certificate to Pets Supplies Plus and complimentary adoption counseling. “Adopting an animal is more than simply providing them with food and water. It’s a commitment to care for them for the rest of their lives, and it requires a lot of time and hard work. But it is well worth the effort because of the love and joy they can bring to your life. That’s one of the reasons we provide adoption counseling, so that people understand the commitment they’re making and to provide them with the tools they need to get the most out of the relationship,” The Operation Kindness adoption counselors provide basic pet care tips, as well as information on topics such as keeping them healthy during the upcoming winter months, heartworm awareness and prevention, how to select the right pet, and how to introduce a new pet to the family and its new environment. “We take great pride in rescuing and caring for our animals to give them the best chance they have at finding a forever, loving home, and we have all kinds to choose from – both mixed and pure breeds. There are so many great animals here that are just waiting for the right person to take them home,” added Hanophy. On average, Operation Kindness adopts out roughly 3,000 dogs per year. At the moment, Operation Kindness has approximately 110 dogs and 41 puppies available for adoption. One of those dogs is Casey, a white Maltese mix, who was transferred to Operation Kindness from a city shelter this summer. She was a little dirty and dehydrated from wandering the street, but otherwise was in great health. Soon after her arrival, staff members discovered that she was pregnant and immediately put her into foster care. Ten days later Casey delivered three beautiful, healthy puppies: Rowen, Finn and Maura. Rowen is white and black; Finn is solid white and Maura is mostly black. All three will be small like their momma, who is about 12 pounds. The puppies are now roughly six weeks old and are ready for adoption, and so is Casey. “Casey is such a sweet, pretty little dog, and she’s been a great mom to her babies. Now that the puppies are old enough to be on their own, Casey has been spayed and is ready to find her permanent, forever home. Because Operation Kindness is a no-kill shelter, we can only house so many animals at a time, so it’s extremely important to find forever homes for all of our temporary residents,” noted Hanophy. To adopt Casey, Rowen, Finn, Maura or one of their canine friends, visit Operation Kindness: 3201 Earhart Drive in Carrollton, Texas, 75006. Operation Kindness is open from noon to 7 p.m. on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays; and from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Operation Kindness is the original and largest no-kill animal shelter in North Texas. Each day Operation Kindness cares for an average of 300 animals at its Carrollton, Texas, shelter with an additional 100 animals living in its foster home network. Operation Kindness is a nonprofit organization that has saved nearly 80,000 animals since its inception.
