Central Penn College adds banking & financial services concentration

College partners with local industry professionals to develop curriculum

SUMMERDALE, Pa. - Oct. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- Beginning January 5, 2015, Central Penn College will offer a new concentration in banking & financial services as part of its business administration bachelor’s degree program. Through discussions and collaboration with area employers including Metro Bank, Wilmington Trust, PSECU, Mid Penn Bank and AmeriChoice Federal Credit Union, Central Penn College has built a banking & financial services concentration curriculum that will meet the needs of the central Pennsylvania area.

“We received positive and constructive comments from the banking and financial services community,” says Professor of Accounting and Business Spencer Martin. “This concentration was developed in partnership with industry professionals and leaders as an educational solution to current needs. Local employers are seeing a shortage of credit analyst positions, and often find that employees require additional training once hired. This concentration prepares graduates to step into a banking & financial services career with the skills and knowledge they need to succeed.”

In addition to adding two courses dedicated to credit analysis, the college wove banking fundamentals throughout its courses to provide additional training for young new hires, including instruction on check flow, credit cards, savings accounts, electronic banking, loans, CDs, and debits and credits. Professionalism and soft skill development, which employers often seek in employees, are an integral part of a Central Penn education.

“I applaud Central Penn College for developing a degree that helps address the needs and challenges of the financial services industry,” says Pat Noel, Metro Bank’s University Director. “These students will find themselves with a distinct advantage in the workplace through the concepts and knowledge this degree provides. And, it will give potential employers a reason to take a closer look at these students’ resumes.”

The new concentration provides students with the understanding of banking definitions, concepts, relationships, and strategies involving individuals, banking and financial institutions and related business activities. Based on program learning outcomes, potential careers for graduates include: loan officer; credit analyst; financial manager, planner or analyst; mortgage loan officer; branch manager; bank examiner; operations manager; compliance officer; commercial loan officer; or commercial lender.

Students will have the opportunity to take the degree program through a combination of on-site and online coursework, either during the day or evening on the Summerdale campus, or fully online. Business administration is the college’s most popular degree program, with 32 percent of the student body enrolled in the general degree or a concentration in finance, healthcare administration, human resources management, management and marketing.

Accelerated 11-week terms and personalized support from experienced faculty, contribute to Central Penn’s high graduate success rate. Within one year of graduation, 85.7 percent of Central Penn graduates are working in their chosen field or continuing their education, according to the college’s One-Year-Graduate Survey.

Central Penn is currently accepting applications for the business administration bachelor’s degree program with a concentration in banking & financial services for the winter term that begins January 5, 2015.
