Local Project Management Firm Contributes to Grand Opening of His ‘N Hers Urban Outfitters Retail

CAMARILLO, Calif. - Oct. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- S.L. Leonard & Associates recently celebrated the grand opening of the Urban Outfitters’ flagship stores, side-by-side men’s and women’s stores in historical buildings in Westwood Village, Los Angeles with client Topa Management Company.  This is the largest retail apparel transaction in more than 40 years in Westwood Village and involved S.L. Leonard & Associates overseeing the extensive renovation of two historically significant properties.

S.L. Leonard & Associates worked with landlord Topa Management Company, brokers and legal counsel to assess and determine what work was needed on the Westwood Boulevard properties to fulfill the Landlord’s lease obligations.  They also engaged the designers and contractors and oversaw construction to prepare the buildings for the tenant.

The two new stores are now housed in two adjacent historic buildings and comprise a record-setting 16,556 sq. ft., making this Urban Outfitters’ third largest store in California.  They are located at 1028 and 1038 Westwood Blvd.

The site of the women’s store is a two-story, 11,281-sq. ft. mega space that was built in 1931 for J.J. Newberry Co.  It is a prime example of vintage Mediterranean architecture, designed by the noted firm of Nordstrom & Anderson.  It’s also the former home of Tower Records.  Topa and Urban Outfitters collaborated to restore and accentuate the building’s original thematic details to showcase significant design elements, including a trio of Moorish arched windows and arch surrounds.  Store design features repurposed vintage wooden doors, exposed red brick walls, dramatic vaulted ceiling and a striking architectural steel staircase.  The “his” store fills 5,275 sq. ft.

Over 13 months of planning and construction went into Urban’s transformation into its newest retail flagship, noted Jim Brooks, president of Topa Management Company, which owns the two properties and is the single largest commercial landlord in the Village. “We’ve had S.L.
