Follow on Google News | Santa Claus Returns to Mountain Makins Festival! For 39 years an event takes place which features mountain craftsmanship and delightful regional authors. And again this year Santa Claus will be in attendance with HIS books!
Joe Moore as he is more officially known, has written and published an entire trilogy about Santa Claus, his wife and of course, his famous helpers. He not only writes about Santa Claus and the North Pole, but he spends the last two months of the year portraying Santa all over East Tennessee in his custom made suits, as he will for this event. Moore is an expert in all things Santa Claus and does interviews as Santa discussing events in the North Pole and hot Christmas toys for kids. Mountain Makins is a folk life/crafts festival celebrating the traditions of Appalachia through traditional music and dance, storytelling, regional authors, fine art, juried crafts, skilled demonstrations, a variety of delicious food, children's activities and more. The annual event, celebrating its 39th year. is a delightful way to spend an autumn weekend and has received major recognition from the Tennessee Magazine which voted it the Best Festival in East Tennessee, and The Southeast Tourism Society had named it a “Top 20 Event in the Southeast” three separate times. This event will be celebrated at Rose Center Saturday, October 25 from 10 – 5 and Sunday, October 26 from 11 – 5, with a special preview reception on Friday evening, October 24th. A growing attraction to the festival is their Authors Corner, featuring the work of local and regional authors like Moore. Subjects include mysteries, humor, fantasy, young adult, nonfiction and more. Several new authors will be attending the festival this year. Moore will be featuring his Trilogy, and he and his wife, Mary Moore (aka Mrs. Claus), will be introducing their new children's books, Santa's Elf Series(c). The new Santa's Elf Series(c) will be a series of 25 elves each having his or her own book written in rhyme for early readers (age 3-8) and each imaginative book is fully illustrated by Mary Moore. They will be introducing the first two inaugural books in the series, Jamie Hardrock, Chief Mining Elf and Shelley Wrapitup, Master Design Elf that will be available at the festival. The Moore's will be selling and autographing their works, which make the perfect holiday present whether 2 or 92. Moore is one of the authors inducted into the Appalachian Authors Guild and said that he will be appearing with one of his fellow authors from the Guild, Dr. Lin Stepp at the show. There will be several other well known and respected authors from East Tennessee. More about Joe Moore and his books can be found at http://thenorthpolepress.com.
