Lake District Calvert Trust Charity Ball Raises Over £18,000 for Bridging the Gap Fund

(2nd October 2014) The Lake District Calvert Trust is delighted to announce that its 2014 Charity Ball was an overwhelming success raising over £18,000 for the Bridging the Gap Fund. The event, which took place on Friday 12th September at the Low Wood Bay Hotel on Lake Windermere, welcomed over 200 guests who enjoyed an evening of fine dining, live music and entertainment including the inspirational speaker Simon Weston OBE.

All proceeds of the Ball will go towards the ‘Bridging the Gap Fund’ which enables visitors to come to the Calvert Trust without finances being a hindering factor; ensuring that people with disabilities, who otherwise would not be able to afford to do so, can experience one of the Calvert Trust’s truly life-changing courses which can provide positive results lasting long after their stay.

Simon Weston OBE, renowned Falkland’s Veteran addressed guests at the event and with his infectious enthusiasm and engaging personality his speech was both inspiring and moving. His message was one of achievement, of triumph over adversity, of seizing the moment and succeeding.

Sean Day Centre Director at The Lake District Calvert Trust commented on the success of the event:

“We are absolutely thrilled with the outcome from the Ball which far exceeded our expectations for the second year of running this event. I would like to thank all our generous supporters and guests who came along and celebrated the achievements of the Trust with us from the past year. Their support has helped us continue with our Bridging the Gap fund that has so far enabled many visitors to benefit from the activities we provide at the Trust.”  The funds raised from the event would not have been possible without the support from the event sponsors, those attending the Ball and the generous donations of prizes for the auctions or raffle, all of which helped to make the event such a success. The Lake District Calvert Trust would like to thank everyone for their support including the following Sponsors for their generous support with this event: Brabners, Carr’s Milling Plc., Holker Group, The Scott Partnership, Low Wood Bay Hotel, Grapevine and Print Graphic. This is the second Annual Charity Ball organized by the Lake District Calvert Trust and the 2014 event saw an increase in attendees and subsequent interest in the amount of funds raised.

Guests enjoyed a delicious four-course meal and a delightful evening of entertainment. Live music from harpist Anna Howard and Cumbrian band Buffalo Party, the Charity Auctions and Casino all proved popular with the guests. Local Auctioneer Colin Tomlinson ran a lively Charity Auction with fabulous prizes including a 14 night holiday in Cyprus and a delightful Botanical Watercolour painted specifically for this event.

Anyone who would like to support the fund can donate by contacting the Calvert Trust on 01768772255 or visit their web site at www.calvert-trust.org.uk/lake-district
