The Balancing Act® on Lifetime® TV Goes PINK for Breast Cancer in October

Special “GO PINK!” edition airing on October 1st will empower women with information on game changing advances in early tumor detection and post-treatment; GE Healthcare wants us to think differently about our breasts and asks “ARE YOU DENSE?”;  LifeCell Corporation advocates for better treatment outcomes with “Know Your Breast Reconstruction Options”

(POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – PR LOG – October 1, 2014)  October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and to show its support, the award-winning show The Balancing Act® is dedicating a special “GO PINK” episode to raise awareness about two critical times – early detection and post-treatment. GE Healthcare and LifeCell Corporation are featured partners in the “GO PINK!” special which first aired on Wednesday, October 1st at 7:30 am (ET/PT) on the Lifetime channel and will re-air on October 8th, October 27th and November 3rd.

The Balancing Act® is proud to partner with GE Healthcare and LifeCell Corporation for the GO PINK! special as both companies are at the center of the latest cutting-edge technologies, and advancements in their respective fields -- and share the show’s mission to educate and empower women about their health.

“The Balancing Act recognizes women today want and need to be educated with trusted information in order to make more informed decisions about their health and the health of those she loves.  The ground breaking information presented in our GO PINK! Breast Cancer Special will have the power to change the lives of millions of women at both ends of the Breast Cancer journey,” said Meta Circhansky, Director of Programming, The Balancing Act.

GE Healthcare will anchor the show, opening with a discussion about its public awareness campaign, “ARE YOU DENSE?” which asks women if they know their breast density number. Statistics show that 47 percent of women don’t know if they have dense breasts or not.* Dr. Rachael Brem, breast cancer survivor and Radiologist and Director of Breast Imaging and Intervention from George Washington University will explain how if a woman’s breasts are dense, although normal, mammograms may be less effective in detecting cancer, as both cancer and dense tissue show up white on a mammogram -- described as trying to find a marshmallow in a cloud.

Having dense breasts increases a women’s likelihood to develop cancer by four to six times**.  Brem will describe how the GE Healthcare Invenia ABUS (Automated Breast Ultrasound) technology is the only FDA-approved technology currently available for dense breast screening. The 15 minute semi-automated exam takes comprehensive views of the breast that are easy to compare to a patients prior mammogram. With the ABUS, cancer shows up dark. It’s vital for women to determine whether or not they have dense breasts because of the risk factor.

LifeCell Corporation joins the show to talk about post-surgical challenges women face due to mastectomy and radiation and the improved surgical reconstruction techniques for women who have survived breast cancer. Renowned surgeon Dr. Kristina O’Shaughnessy and one of her breast reconstruction patients discuss what breast cancer patients and their surgeons need to know about new options for breast reconstruction surgery that help a woman feel more beautiful and whole again.

Options like AlloDerm® Regenerative Tissue Matrix – the industry leading tissue matrix transitions into functional tissue, providing surgeons with better structural support for weak tissue in breast reconstructive surgery.  Fat Grafting involves taking fat from one area of the body and transferring it to another. REVOLVE™ System  allows surgeons to process large volumes of fat in an efficient manner and to obtain high quality fat graft, helping patients achieve natural results.
