Empowering Visually Impaired Employees in the Workplace

In honor of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (NDEAM), GovDocs, Inc. announces the release of labor law posting products available to blind and visually impaired workers in accessible formats.

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- The National Federation for the Blind (NFB (https://nfb.org/blindness-statistics)) estimates that 1.2 million workers in the U.S. have visual disabilities, which means their vision cannot be improved through lenses or surgery.

Even though the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires employers to provide reasonable accommodation for disabled workers in all aspects of the workplace – including access to workers’ rights information – currently only a limited number of federal, state, and local government agencies offer their required postings in Braille or large-print formats.

GovDocs offers large employers a range of formats for required workplace postings to ensure visually impaired and blind employees and applicants have access to labor law resources in the workplace:

·        Large-print format: Provide large-print formats (18-point type as recommended by the American Foundation for the Blind) of any required federal, state, and city postings in locations with visually impaired employees and in all locations where visually impaired job applicants may visit.

·        Braille versions: Display Braille versions of any required federal, state, and city postings in workplaces with blind employees and in all locations where blind job applicants may visit.

·        Electronic versions: Provide access to PDF versions of any required federal, state, and city postings labor law postings on your company intranet so that visually impaired and blind employees can access the content through screen reader technology or refreshable Braille readers.

GovDocs, Inc. (www.govdocs.com) is a leading provider of labor law posting compliance to North America’s largest employers. We help employers reach all of their employees with important workplace notices while helping companies reduce unnecessary spending on labor law postings and logistics.
