LOS ANGELES - Oct. 1, 2014 - PRLog -- Today, ccMixter.org launched its first-ever fundraiser campaign to help grow the site, free of ads and free for aritsts. ccMixter is a global community of over 5,000 musicians that creates open-source music with Creative Commons licenses.  Its community members have produced more than 35,000 original music tracks that are legally used in thousands of videos, remixes, mobile apps, and games.  ccMixter has grown significantly through its volunteer leadership and community donated original music library.  ccMixter is pleased to announce its fundraiser at IndieGoGo starts today, October 1st, and continues through November 24th.

"ccMixter is the most prominent experiment in free music culture," stated renowned professor of law and global activist Lawrence Lessig, when explaining the unique aspects of ccMixter's free, open-source-music community based upon sharing.

ccMixter connects individuals in countries all around the world, through the universal language of music.  It is unlike all other music sites on the web, as it is based wholy upon collaboration, not competition.  This makes ccMixter a uniquely positive place for musicians.  ccMixter’s fundraiser campaign and supporting videos, posts, social media and tweets, will utilize a  hashtag that represents the spirit of ccMixter:  #MusicConnectsUs

“ccMixter connects me deeply to musicians all around the world I’ve never met through the universal language of music.  That is powerful and positive,” remarked Emily Richards, CEO of ArtisTech Media and ccMixter artist known as Snowflake.

Supporting ccMixter on IndieGoGo will keep ccMixter.org growing in many substantial ways.  Phase I will allow ccMixter to migrate to better servers, cover projected server expenses for one year, upgrade hardware, and fix site bugs.  Phase II funds will be used to update websites, code new capabilities into the site's robust and open APIs, provide more artist and visitor support, and expand the site's new Beta ccPlus program and ccPlus Library, that provide new opportunities for artists and their creative works.

Alex Goodwin, co-founder and CTO of ArtisTech Media and ccMixter artist known as Go1dfish explained, “Contributing to the site as a musician gives me insight into how typical users use ccMixter so that I can make it better for everyone.”

Support a global community of musicians, an all-volunteer team and a culture of sharing by donating to ccMixter’s IndieGoGo fundraising campaign.  Help keep ccMixter.org free, open, and growing.
