Follow on Google News | Awesome Atlanta announces October’s $1,000 grant winner, Simon Berrebi, Ph.D. student at GA TechBy: The Awesome Foundation- Atlanta “My work as a Ph.D. student and as a researcher is to find solutions to revolutionize bus transit with real-time information. I have tested the method in a computer simulation that replicated a typical high-frequency bus route and found that my method could cut passenger-waiting time by half. I feel truly privileged to receive the Awesome Foundation’s award. This award will help me build a bus control system to replace schedules, and to make buses run more efficiently,” Simon’s plan to change the quality of transit service will efficiently reduce Atlantans waiting time thus aiding in the reliability of local transportation. I think we can all agree that this service is needed in our community. Simon concluded, “My goal is to test the control method within two years on a high frequency bus route in Atlanta to provide a show-case, at the national level. The grant will allow me to purchase equipment to test the system. I am grateful to Awesome Atlanta for supporting my vision for an intelligent bus transit.” The Awesome Foundation will host their monthly Awesome Hour on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 pm at Fork and Juniper located inside of the Hyatt Atlanta Midtown. Simonwill be recognized and given the $1,000 grant to continue his cause. Individuals and groups interested in applying for an Awesome Grant in the future are encouraged to come out and meet the group’s trustees. “Simon's research is inspiring. Our trustees found his proposal relatable considering the heavy traffic we all find ourselves in due to the metro area's reliance on cars. We are all aware that Atlanta's transportation system is a complex infrastructure of several systems and maybe his work can help add value to some of the other ongoing thoughtful, and useful transportation programs,” said Dr. Dionne Mahaffey, Awesome Atlanta’s Founder. To date, The Awesome Foundation for the Arts and Sciences has granted over one million dollars in grants worldwide through their network of chapters. Awesome Atlanta is overjoyed to be assisting local causes for the greater good of our community.
