Irirgation wells are not normally tested by home inspector. recently while investigating a iNdoor Air Quilty Complaint in a home, Trichlorethelene (TCE) was discovered in the air within the home during routine indoor air sampling. TCE is not used by the home owner. Further ground water testing and testing of the irrigation well identified TCE present. The property owner was froced to convert the irrigation well to a municipal water suppied well. The child had a allergic reaction to TCE exposure and recovered from the exposure to the TCE. The source of the contamination was a contaminated dry cleaners approximately 1/2 mile away. Many irrigation wells are not permited or closely monitored by the muncipality. Environmental Systems recommends that before purchase all irrigation wells be tested and a ground water sample be collected.
