By: Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation Obesity now affects nearly 18% of all children and adolescents in the United States, and since 1980, the number has almost tripled. According to a 2013 report by the Centers for Disease Control, obesity rates in low-income preschoolers, after decades of rising, began to level off from 2003 through 2008 and now are showing small declines in many states. However, Georgia ranks 49 in overall prevalence with 37.3% of children considered either overweight or obese. “The objective is to empower children with applicable training that shows them that healthy eating is easy when you go from farm to table. We want to give children a proper foundation of how to eat healthy and organic foods.” said Lori A. Manns, President of Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation, Inc. The Home Depot has partnered with the Live Healthy & Thrive Youth Foundation as a sponsor to assist in offering this educational program free to local Atlanta area schools.
