For more than 30 years, FMC has helped communities evolve, by teaching the public how to become part of the news ecology, and advocating for quality local news as vital to the maintaining quality of life standards.

The Fair Media Council was created to represent the voice of the news consumer — the public — on how the local media was doing its job. That was more than 30 years ago, when a group of concerned business and community leaders realized the important role news plays in maintaining vibrant, competitive communities.

Today, FMC is widely regarded as one of the oldest and most effective media watchdog organizations in the country, with a unique emphasis on creating an educated news consumer. No other organization in the country fulfills these dual roles.
