SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. -
Sept. 22, 2014 -
PRLog -- Two free tours will be offered at 11 am and at 1 pm. Tours will start at
A Day at Abner's, a store offering vintage gifts, which is located in the basement of the historic Doubleday House. The store's entrance is at the rear of the yellow house located at 28 Washington Street in Ballston Spa.
Called "Around the Block: A Short History Tour" the tours will include commentary by Mr. Fiske, who will point out several interesting historical buildings, including one that is now a drugstore but was originally an auto garage and several places that were used as locations in the 1973 film "The Way We Were," that starred Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand.
Mr. Fiske is the author of several historical books, including
Forgotten on the Kennebec: Abandoned Places and Quirky People, and
Ballston Spa History Walkaround: A Guide to Historic Places and Interesting People. The latter book is available at A Day at Abner's, and also from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and other online booksellers. It is also available as an
e-book from the Apple iTunes store, Kobo books, and smashwords.com, allowing purchasers to take the tour themselves using their e-reader or iPhone/iPad. The "Around the Block" tours being offered are a shortened version of the walking tour described in the book.
Mr. Fiske will be signing copies of
Ballston Spa History Walkaround at A Day at Abner's following each tour.
