Follow on Google News | New podcast explores the funnier side of disabilityUK based comedy group Abnormally Funny People have launched a new monthly podcast show discussing all things disability with a big splash of comedy.
Simon Minty says, “The show is a mixture of talking about what’s interesting to us and telling people what is out there which might be useful, fun, or both. With Steve as our ‘token non-disabled person’ we aim to appeal to everyone and he can stop us from sliding in to a disability fest.” Abnormally Funny People is a mixed group of disabled and non-disabled comedians. Created in 2005, the group first performed to sell-out crowds at The Edinburgh Festival Fringe. They have since expanded to twice as many performers, each offering their take on their lives, society and the response to disability through the lens of comedy. The group performs regularly at the Soho Theatre in London and around the country. Three episodes are available immediately for free via the Abnormally Funny People Show Channel on Audioboo and on iTunes and other podcast directories. Written transcripts of each episode are also available. Says co-host Steve Best, “In some ways, the new show is more accessible than our live stand-up shows. A person listens on their device in their own time. There’s no need to travel, and it’s free". Guests to date include Liz Carr (BBC’s Silent Witness); Liam O’Carroll (Channel 4’s Friday Night Dinner); Steve Day (regular contributor to Radio 4 programmes); former BBC reporter and now freelance journalist and consultant Geoff Adams-Spink; The Abnormally Funny People Show is sponsored by Barclays with products supplied by Really Useful Stuff.
