Open-Xchange launches OX Messenger for text, voice and video messaging at OX Summit 2014

Sept. 18, 2014 - PRLog -- MUNICH, Germany –Open-Xchange,creator of messaging, collaboration and office productivity software has announced the launch of OX Messenger, an instant messaging (IM), voice and video application based on the WebRTC standard. Developed in collaboration with VoIP and web technology specialists, Voiceworks, OX Messenger fully integrates with OX App Suite to offer end users a full set of communication tools from within the browser or mobile app.

OX App Suite users can use OX Messenger to make voice and video calls and send instant messages to other individual users or groups. Single click calling or IM from email chains, diary items and address book contacts streamlines communication making collaboration easier. Non-OX users can also take part in communication through a guest mode, ensuring no one is left out of the conversation. Optional features include the dial out to regular telephone network (PSTN) enabling users to call normal fixed-line and mobile phone numbers.

OX Messenger is the result of almost two years’ worth of collaborative development between Open-Xchange and Voiceworks. Built on the open source WebRTC standard protocol, OX Messenger offers highly resilient and secure peer to peer communication. A combination of desktop browser use and native apps for mobile ensure consistent and reliable performance and service at home, in the office or on the move. OX Messenger also supports browsers that do not yet support the WebRTC open standard, including Internet Explorer and Safari, by utilizing a proprietary fallback mechanism.

OX Messenger was launched at OX Summit 2014, Europe’s largest open cloud event, at the Muffatwerk in Munich. Service providers will be able to offer OX Messenger to customers from December 2014 as part of OX-as-a-Service or a hybrid hosted OX App Suite installation.
