Follow on Google News | An Oklahoma Child Continues to Fight for His LifeDemarion's Hope for the Future to Regain Use of His Arms Again
By: Street City Enterprises The drastic accident at age 3 caused severe brain damage and left Demarion who is now 10 years old with life- threatening neurological disorders. Due to this accident Demarion suffers from Epilepsy, is legally blind, and unable to move his elbows, leaving his arms bent at his chest. Demarion's family is on a mission to raise $25K towards Demarion's Medical Fund. “Imagine what your life would be like, if your arms were in slings, strapped to your chest, twenty-four hours a day...that is Demarion's life every day,” said Edna Pittman, Demarion's Mother. There is hope for Demarion. Last month his family received the approval to have his first arm surgery between October 2014 to February 2015, however he still has medical needs for a full recovery. Lamar Mensah aka L-Smooth, an Oklahoma Artist, Father and Community Worker is taking action during National Child Awareness Month in helping Demarion regain his life back. Mensah is bringing awareness to Demarion's livelihood by supporting the fundraising site on GoFundMe.com to help raise donations to get the medical attention needed to save Demarion's arms. “As a parent, there is nothing more frightening than your child being injured. Accidents do happen so I would hope to see Demarion's Law effective nationwide. It would help put single parents or families at ease when sending their children to a home daycare,” said Mensah of Street City Enterprises, LLC. At the time of the incident, Oklahoma daycare centers were not legally required to carry liability insurance, therefore Demarion's medical care was financially uncovered. As a result, Demarion's Law became effective on April 22, 2008 requiring all daycare facilities in Oklahoma to carry a minimum of $200,000 in liability insurance. Unfortunately, this law was signed by Oklahoma Governor Brad Henry after the incident occurred leaving Demarion's family to bare the financial burden from the daycare provider's negligent act. Twenty other states still exist that do not require licensed daycare centers to carry liability insurance. Oklahoma took a stand to enforce a law to protect children during recourse from accidental or neglectful events. Join Mensah in the fight to help Demarion during his recovery journey that springs forth from a hope and prayer.
