Photographers ‘Engage’ for Launch of E-Learning Website

DERRY, Northern Ireland - Sept. 17, 2014 - PRLog -- Hundreds of photographers from around Ireland attended the launch of a pioneering online training company, Donal Doherty ‘Engage’, 3 September at Photovision Roadshows in Croke Park Stadium, Dublin. The creation of one of Ireland’s leading photographers, Donal Doherty, Engage aims to help photographers to create a business and life they love. Subscribers will benefit from a new video tutorial every two weeks, with content ranging from advice on planning and setting up your business to social media marketing and branding. In addition, subscribers will benefit from exclusive interview’s with some of the world’s leading photographers including; Mike Colon, Lindsay Adler, Lisa Beaney, Kate Hopewell Smith, Padraic and Sonia Deasy, Lisa Devlin and Meg Courtney among others.

Donal worked in marketing and public relations for leading super brands, before making a career change four years ago to follow his passion for photography. On joining the photography industry he noticed that there are so many wonderful photographers who are amazing at the art of photography, but who struggle with the art of business. It was three years before Donal returned to the idea, meanwhile he positioned himself as a destination photographer, in demand for weddings around the world. In the process he picked up an impressive array of accolades including ‘Creative Photographer of the Year’ and ‘Fashion Photographer of the Year.’

In 2013, Donal approached the Business Opportunities Programme through Derry City Council and they funded a consultant, Lara Goodall, to help apply for funding from Invest Northern Ireland. They believed in the project and commended the innovation of the website, which is the first of its kind in Ireland. Specialist web designer, Melissa Love was commissioned to develop the website and Cinematic Tide filmed the video tutorials.

A number of companies in the photography industry supported the project as sponsors including Light Blue, Sim Imaging and The Design Space. Stephen Baugh, CEO of New Zealand based Queensberry Albums are the primary sponsor and he explains why they were keen to support the project:

“We are very excited to be sponsoring Donal in his new venture, which has such synergy with our own mission - to support our photographer partners worldwide in building a creatively and financially fulfilling life from their passion for beautiful images.”

Donal is delighted he can give back to the photography industry through Engage. He explains:

“I believe that being a photographer is one of the best jobs in the world and if you structure your business in the right way you can also enjoy an amazing life outside of work. Engage will help thousands of photographers around the world to live the life of their dreams while following their passion.”
