Cult Wines Australia accesses a limited supply of Masseto 2011
Cult Wines Australia the fine wine investment specialists are tipping excellent price growth for the Masseto 2011, the Super Tuscan wine which is a must have for any wine portfolios.
Masseto is a single-vineyard Merlot cuvee is produced in much smaller quantities than its older brother, commanding around 3 times the price of Ornellaia on average. First appearing in 1986 (though first vintage was named simply ‘Merlot’), clay-rich soil is responsible for the creation of a rich, opulent and seductive wine which enraptures the senses with black cherries and dark chocolate aromas. Finessed, balanced acidity with a hint of citrus on the finish reveals the Italian influence on this cuvee of French Merlot. It is now amongst the strongest performers within the Liv-ex Super Tuscan 50.
Renowned wine critic James Suckling scored the Masseto 2011 a perfect 100 points. His tasting notes were “wow. Fabulous aromas of currents, rosemary, mint, and orange peel. Perfect nose. Full body with perfectly integrated tannins. It’s long and incredible with tangerine, toasted-ask, berry, terracotta and chocolate flavours. It lasts for minutes on the palate. This needs at least five years to soften buy spellbinding now”. The only other Masseto vintage to score a perfect 100 from James Suckling was the 2001 vintage, with the 2001 trading at nearly double the price of the 2011. Cult Wines expects the 2011 Masseto to appreciate in value towards the 2001 price in coming years.
Investing in Italian wine provides investors with strong diversification benefits against the traditional wine investment portfolios made up of wines from Bordeaux and Burgundy. The key to investing in any blue chip wines is to buy early and buy vintages from well-respected vineyards that have a very high critic score. The 2011 Masseto ticks all the boxes and should form part of all wine collectors and investors’ portfolios.
Only 3000 cases are produced annually meaning the supply for this outstanding wine is very limited. Cult Wines Australia has just gained access to a limited supply of the 2011 vintage and has made this available for its clients.
Cult Wines Director Harley Salt explains further “Entering into any investment market for the first time can be a little daunting without expert help. Here at Cult Wines we like to draw on many years of fine wine and investment experience to ensure a successful wine portfolio. We strongly believe that the 2011 Masseto offers excellent growth prospects, especially given the market sentiment towards Super Tuscan wines and the fact it scored a perfect 100 from a global wine critic. At below A$2300 for a total investment it provides new investors and collectors a great entry point to an exciting market”.
