LITCHFIELD, Ill. - Sept. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- The Montgomery County Toastmasters met at Fusion Aquatics & Fitness Center in Hillsboro, IL on 9-2-14. All club members attended with the exception of one.  So it was a great turn out! And guess what... we had a visitor! Olivia Ervin, a pianist and employee at Fusion, joined us as a guest of Kim Noyes. Although she didn't know what to expect, our club entertained her and gave her a taste for Toastmasters.

Immediate Past President Bill Guthrie of Litchfield gave his speech on his new role as Sergeant at Arms and reminded us of his duties. He helps us with many tasks, such as facility management, materials, meeting locations, meeting set-up and break-down, party planning, and other duties. Some of us had no idea! Thank you, Bill! Bill did also suggest name tags and a guest book. We had been discussing a guest book already. Club President Cindy Brown likes both ideas.

Martha Ruppert gave her speech on her role as Vice President of Membership completely off the cuff! She lost electricity before she left for the meeting and could not print out her speech. Way to improvise, Martha! If you want to repeat the speech with your notes sometime, let us know. Martha would like to do more speeches and gave us a great analogy of running an exercise facility and yet never showing up there, never using the facilities herself, etc. She also reminded us of the club mission, which she read from the manual. We should all be reminded of it and why we joined and remain members of this wonderful club.

Kim Noyes provided table topics based on the movie "The Giver" and general questions.
Bernie Hand answered as to why we might want a society like that in "The Giver", but gave us the cons instead.
Bill was asked then why we might want a society like that in "The Giver" and he pointed out that it would be quite efficient.
Dennis Viehweg was asked to tell us his dreams for life as a 10 year old boy. He wanted to be a movie star!
As our former Club Mentor and a veteran member of Toastmasters International since 1994, Todd W. Austin, DTM from Virden was asked why he joined Toastmasters and of course, he had plenty to say about that.

Overall it was a great meeting and we look forward to the next one on 9-16-14 at Fusion beginning at our new time, 6:45 PM.  The speakers will be Kim Noyes from Hillsboro & Jackie Rakers from Ohlman.  Guests are always welcome to attend.  For more info, call Public Relations Officer Todd Austin at (217) 965-3100 or email him at draustin@royell.net.
