TORONTO - Sept. 14, 2014 - PRLog -- The launch party will feature food and drinks, an introduction by CSI founding director Tonya Surman, a reading by the author, Toronto software and computer technology executive Fulvio Ciano, and discussion centring around technology, fiction, and social innovation. For all attending, there will be an exciting prize giveaway of Google Glass, the new hands-free, wearable technology from Google.

The party celebrates Digital Wilderness, the recently released book written by Canadian author F.L. Ciano and published and printed by Friesen Press.

The book tells the story of Edward Phillips, a brilliant software engineer who leads a comfortable life as an employee of Virton Technologies in Chicago until he is offered a promotion to corporate headquarters in Boston. In his new role, Ed is assigned to work on the complex and cutting edge Human Augmentation Digital Interface (HADI) project. The project is introduced to Ed as one that will greatly benefit humanity – capable of restoring sight, hearing, and motor functions to the disabled – but as Ed soon finds out, things are not as they appear. With the help of an unexpected ally, Ed faces the challenge of saving humanity from the evil masterminds behind the program. Risking his reputation, his safety, and his very life, Ed races against time to stop HADI before it reaches its goal of achieving full control over the human race.

In his review of Digital Wilderness, Pulitzer Prize-winning author Robert B. Lowe writes that “[t]he new technology imagined in Digital Wilderness seems eerily similar to what exists today, making the story frighteningly close to home. The characters and relationships are well drawn and believable. Both the plot and pace make F.L. Ciano’s first novel a compelling and enjoyable read.”

Like Lowe, early readers of the book are intrigued by the representation of a world seemingly set in the not-too-distant future, acknowledging that Ciano presents a “technologically credible and socially plausible” setting that “goads us into considering the frightening potential implications of our intimate relationships with machines.”

With nearly three decades of experience in software and computer technology ranging from video game development to telecommunications, and as the CEO of Now Solutions Group, F.L. Ciano is an expert on technology and the impact of digital product development on our personal and corporate lives. He lives in Toronto with his wife and two children. Digital Wilderness is his first novel.

Trade paperback and ebook editions of Digital Wilderness are now available in online bookstores worldwide. To purchase a copy signed by the author, refer to the book launch party details below.
