SAN DIEGO - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- Patrons of Sushi Deli 3 ave three new reasons to celebrate: more seating, a bigger menu including craft beer, and new decor. The sushi spot located at 7986 Armour St. in San Diego added 811 square feet to the rear of the restaurant, and hired local interior design firm Muro Designs to complete the space.

The expansion included a new kitchen, dining room and patio. The restaurant continues to operate its existing 1,726-square-foot space, which includes an additional kitchen and dining room.

“This was a challenging space because we had to make 811 square feet feel much bigger,” said Miwa Yamamuro, founder of Muro Designs. “Once the new kitchen was complete, we were tasked with creating a vibrant and airy dining and patio space, while maximizing seating and functionality.”

In the new 240-square-foot dining room, industrial-style materials like brick, chalkboards and steel chairs were used. Glass Sapporo beer bottles were turned into lights and hang from 15-foot ceilings adding drama and volume to the space. A collage of Kabuki pin-ups were strategically placed on a red wall surrounding a Sapporo sign created from bottle caps. Finally, Muro Designs created an oversized Koi lantern out of a windsock to add a focal point to the space.

“Personalization was key for the owner,” added Yamamuro. To achieve this, the firm allocated a space in the dining room for the owner to hand-paint Sushi Deli’s Japanese-character logo, which translates to “sushi.”

Large bi-fold doors off of the dining room lead to a new covered patio surrounded by tall bamboo for added privacy. Wood slats and a long, horizontal red light fixture “…add edge to the patio space,” says the designer. Colorful throw pillows covered in Japanese-inspired fabrics, and an oversized painting of a Kabuki actor completes the space.

A new kitchen will improve food delivery. Also part of its expansion, the restaurant added six new rolls to its menu and a long list of craft and Japanese beers.

Sushi Deli 3 is one of many restaurants in Muro Designs’ portfolio, which also includes hotels, residential and commercial spaces, and office designs. For more information, visit www.murodesigns.com or call (949) 351-0713.
