CHEYENNE, Wyo. - Sept. 10, 2014 - PRLog -- OutdoorGearLab, the world's finest outdoor gear review website, has recently set live their review of top mountain bike helmets. Seven different state of the art half-shell model contenders were put to the test while riding hundreds of miles over diverse terrain in all kinds of weather. Each product was scored on the areas of durability, comfort, weight, features, ventilation and adjustment.

Throughout their testing, the OutdoorGearLab testing team discovered which contenders were best for different styles of riding, from casual trail jaunts to all day cross country excursions, and even which product they thought was the best option for enduro racing. The review goes over different types of products and designs available for those that need some assistance differentiating between the categories and it also elaborates in depth on all of the key criteria evaluated that went into determining the Editors’ Choice, Top Pick and Best Buy award winners. Also included in this review is an excellent and informative buying advice article.

The winners are:

Editors’ Choice - Troy Lee A1

The Troy Lee A1 won Editors’ Choice award for being the highest quality, most comfortable and best fitting product with the best coverage. According to Gear Editor, Luke Lydiard, “The Troy Lee beat out all of the half-shell competition by being lighter, more durable, having better ventilation than the others and it has an awesome visor.”

Top Pick – Bell Super

The Bell Super was an extremely close second to the Editors’ Choice award winner. The Super won Top Pick award due to its large visor offering extended coverage and also because it has a lot of extra features. Editor Lydiard states, “The Super has a great articulating visor that provides extra temporal and occipital coverage, which we loved. We recommend the Super highly if you wear goggles often while riding or if you intend to film, because it has a place to mount a GoPro camera.”

Best Buy – Giro Feature

The Giro Feature won Best Buy award for being lightweight, affordable and having extended rear coverage. Gear Editor Lydiard and his test team were surprised at how well it performed and the number of awesome extra features that it has. Lydiard reports, “We didn’t expect much at first but this well designed model has a very cool visor that pivots on a pair of screws that adjust, but it can be secured in place as well by a large screw underneath the visor that is easily adjusted by your thumb even if you have full finger gloves on. The Feature has very lightweight, comfortable and secure retention straps and a rear click wheel adjustment system and it also comes in a variety of awesome colors.”
