Nothing but Mud - The Finger Lakes Mud Run

Ah, September. The end of summer and the hot, lazy, carefree days at the beach or by the pool.

AUBURN, N.Y. - Sept. 9, 2014 - PRLog -- The dreary, cloudy, monotone weather that ushers in the start of a new school year, homework, and a reminder that winter (and the accompanying snow and subzero temperatures) is just around the corner. September in Upstate New York is just a nicer way of saying rain, thunderstorms, rain, hurricane-like conditions, and rain. Did we mention rain? If you've ever lived here, you know how damp and depressing the weather can get, despite the promise of gorgeous autumn foliage.

But it turns out we've been looking at it all wrong, because with the rain comes the mud, and here at the Finger Lakes Mud Run, we can't think of anything better. Mud is our purpose, our raison d'être. For us, the more mud, the better. In fact, that's why we've expanded the course size. If you thought last year's 160 acres of fun were wild, just wait till this year. Thanks to the generosity of local property owners, the Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park has the opportunity to become even bigger and better than ever before.  Can you say 750 acres of oozy, sticky, glutinous, glorious mud? Ok, there may be some grass in there somewhere, and trees, and of course, the obstacles, but still. We're mixing up as much mud as we think you all can handle, so get ready.

And when we're talking about mixing up mud, we're not talking about taking a garden hose and creating a mud puddle your toddler would roll his/her eyes at. No, we're going all out to create the muddiest, messiest experience of your life, including the now-famous Everest Mud Pit that'll leave you (literally) swimming in mud.

We're taking advantage of all that the central New York climate has to offer this time of year. Actually, we're embracing it. Our half-hearted hellos to cooler temperatures are a thing of the past, replaced by an eagerness that can't be tempered, because we know what the change in seasons means: mud, mud, and more mud. So bring it on, Mother Nature. The more moisture, the better. Forget rainbows—we know what comes after the rain: mud.

The 2014 Finger Lakes Mud Run at Everest Park takes place on Saturday, September 27. Participants can register online for morning or afternoon waves. For more information, visit www.fingerlakesmudrun.com or check out our Facebook page.
